Safiya Sinclair
Safiya Sinclair, an acclaimed Jamaican poet and memoirist, is the National Book Critics Circle Award winner for How to Say Babylon. This powerful memoir about breaking free from a strict religious upbringing to find her own voice was a New York Times Notable Book, a TIME Top 10 Nonfiction selection, and featured on Barack Obama’s reading list. Sinclair is also the author of the award-winning poetry collection Cannibal and has received such prestigious honors as the Guggenheim Fellowship. She is an associate professor of creative writing at Arizona State University.
